What would I tell my teenage self? hmmm…. Bloguary is the goal, 30 days of writing a topic blog pertaining to what I write about. I can do this and for the first of this month. The question is, what would I tell my teenage self?
DO IT!!!! I had so many options and so many ventures after college that I could have strived for as a teenager and didn’t. Why I didn’t many can relate to. The simple reason was I didn’t want to disappoint my family.
I had letters and meetings with recruiters from the army, goals to join the navy, and an opportunity to go to the other side of the world on a mission to help others. I didn’t do so listening to the wishes of my parents. We live in a world of fear as well a world where the boundaries of respect for one’s parents is not always clear. Both stopped me!
Truth be told every aspect of me at that young age felt I couldn’t do anything in life without my parents by my side. After being 15 years old and going through more than a 15 year old can handle in one year I couldn’t really imagine doing anything else alone.
On another note I was beginning my transition of Jewish studies and how can one do what parents would disapprove of when one of the ten commandments is to honor thy mother and father?
Looking back at life and where I am today, I wish I would have made the choice to take the leap, make a decision and land where life would take me if I chose a path. I would have seen more, grown more and become a better person which in return would have given my family so much more than I can today.
Sometimes, We take the safe route thinking that is the route best to take but really we are allowing outside forces and our fears to make our decisions. there is not one way Hashem will see a better world to return to if we live our lives in fear rather than taking that leap. So, to my teenage self…..
GO FOR IT, DO IT, TAKE THE LEAP!
